Blue's Ocean Home
Blue lives in the beautiful Galápagos Islands where the water is perfect for fishing. He and his friends nest on rocky cliffs where they can easily take off for their fishing adventures. They don't build fancy nests; a simple scrape on the ground is all Blue needs.
Conservation Status
The Galápagos Blue-footed Booby (Sula nebouxii excisa) is currently listed as **Least Concern** globally, but the subspecies endemic to the Galápagos shows concerning population fluctuations. The total population crashed from ~20,000 breeding pairs in the 1960s to just ~6,400 pairs by 2012 due to reduced sardine availability from warming waters. While numbers have somewhat recovered, Blue and his friends still face threats from El Niño events and climate change affecting their food supply.
